Sweet Sixteen Candle Lighting Ceremony in the BEGINNING or END?

A Candle Lighting Ceremony is traditionally done towards the end of the party. But what if it was in the Beginning?

First off, everyone can agree that a Sweet Sixteen is supposed to be the party of the birthday girl’s dreams. Especially relevant, the Candle Lighting Ceremony is there for the Sweet Sixteen to showcase how much she loves all of her guests. However she wants it done – is how it gets done!

However, today young people get very caught up in the expectations set by others and can sometimes get stuck with fear of outside of the box thinking.

Luminique Events Group tries to push every party we work with to innovate and go outside of their comfort zone! That’s the only way to assure greatness!

 

In addition, here at Luminique Events Group we have been partying with a lot of Sweet Sixteens who prefer to do their Candle Lighting Ceremony RIGHT AFTER the Grand Introduction in the beginning of the party!

WHAT?!

So it kinda goes like this…

7PM – guests arrive

7:15 – Sweet Sixteen is introduced. Special Dance. Welcome Speech by Parents.

7:45 – Candelighting Ceremony

8:15 – Dinner

8:45/8:50 – Dance

9:45 – Dessert

10 – Dance till the end of theoretical party – 11 PM

We totally agree with this idea of doing the Candle Lighting Ceremony in the beginning of the evening. Here’s why – Sweet Sixteens, although traditional, really do not have as many formalities as some other formal events. Some events like Weddings and Mitzvahs require a huge overall time slot to be set aside strictly for formalities. As you see here with the proposed party model, it is possible to finish Sweet Sixteen Formalities in under an hour. This way, there is more time for talk with family and friends. Also, there will be more time for eating the delicious food.

But more importantly, this leaves much more time for dancing – which is why you hired Luminique Events Group in the first place!

 

Yet, we do see the downside of bulking the formalities together. Although it is possible to finish all formalities of a Sweet Sixteen, this does mean a total hour just about of your guests sitting in their seats, watching formalities! Sometimes guests can get antsy, but they will find the patience was worth it while the rest of the party goes generally undisturbed!

Of course, Luminique Events Group does not deter Sweet Sixteens from doing what they like too! We are just presenting another side of the same book!

Keeping things traditional in events like these sometimes is for a lot more than just the party. Traditions are important to maintain and Luminique agrees with that. When the Sweet Sixteen Candle Lighting Ceremony is done towards the end of the evening, as it usually is, time is still divvied up proportionately.

The majority of our Sweet Sixteens go something like this:

7PM – guests arrive

7:30 – Sweet Sixteen is introduced. Special Dance. Welcome Speech by parents.

8 – Dinner

8:30 – Dance

9:15 – Candle Lighting Ceremony / Dessert

10:15 – Dance till the end of theoretical party – 11 PM

FROM A DJ PERSPECTIVE, A NJ WEDDING HAS ONE “FORMALITY” THAT BRIDES & GROOMS NATIONWIDE ARE STARTING TO QUESTION: THE BOUQUET & GARTER TOSS.

 

IS IT REALLY THAT IMPORTANT?

 

Luminique Events Group has been receiving many Brides & Grooms who are just cutting this dubois tradition right out of their Reception. Don’t get us wrong, many couples love the game and love putting their guests on the spot even more. But will you be missing out if you choose to cut the Bouquet & Garter out? Let’s weigh some pros & cons.

TRADITION

 

PROS: The section of the reception where the Toss goes down is one section that may very well receive all of the hardy laughs throughout the night. We have seen some crazy things go down during this tradition.

CONS: First off, who was the one who decided that the Groom undressing the Bride in front of their family & friends is a good way to get the party started? Not just undress your bride, but throw it in the crowd? We can understand why some couples may modestly step back from this tradition.

 

TIME

 

PROS: Time flies when you are having fun. This section of the Reception takes up a lot of time that could be used for other things – but isn’t this one of those things that we wanted to use our time for? Think about that tongue twister for a sec.

CONS: As I said, the Bouquet & Garter Toss takes up some time. Some couples like to cut this event out entirely so the Cake Cutting and Dessert can run a little longer. Some cut it out so they can get right back to dancing. That is what Luminique Events Group is most concerned about anyway 😉

 

…IS IT GONNA BE AWKWARD?

 

Instead of a Pro or a Con, we have a story. The Bride threw the Bouquet and Grandma caught it. Groom took Garter off Bride. Groom threw Garter into crowd. Lil’ Nicky, the Ringbearer, caught the Garter. You know how the rest of the story goes…

 


 

The “Toss” is a classic event during a Reception that your Guests will definitely love. However it is definitely not necessary either!

THE NORTH JERSEY WEDDING DJ INDUSTRY IS HECTIC.

 

Our Load-Ins and Set-ups can become tough. Times are constantly changing. Venues sometimes dislike us due to past bad experiences. Other Vendors may find us annoying. Sometimes even, guests will not even request songs.

 

WE ARE LUMINIQUE EVENTS GROUP AND WE DO. NOT. LIKE. THIS SCENARIO!

 

CALLING ALL VENDORS AND VENUES! LET US REMIND YOU: we are all here for the same thing – to throw a MAGNIFICENT PARTY.

 

So WHY do we feel like we are pulling in different directions?

 

I suppose these pre-conceived notions from other vendors and venues come simply from bad experiences. We cannot knock you guys for stuff out of your control.

 

HOWEVER, we can hopefully shine some light to all perform better, together.

AS THE CLASSIC SAYING GOES, “REAL RECOGNIZE REAL”.

 

Luckily, Luminique Events Group [even being a North Jersey DJ ;)] has not had to deal with many bad spots between Vendors & Venues = we never let it happen.

  • First thing we choose to do is touch base with the Staff & Management – let them know that the Entertainment for the evening has arrived!

     

  • We then touch base with other Vendors that are working the event as well

     

  • We like to try & foster COMMUNICATION & TEAMWORK between all three (3) working factors: Vendors, Venue, Guests & Clients.

     

 

Luminique Events Group trying to check this Checklist at every party, no matter what kind of party or where, usually leads to a VERY SUCCESSFUL EVENT! We let our associates and guests know, up front, that we are serious about our job.

 

We try to make it known we are here to have a good time, but professionally.

 

Once all the controllers of an event link up & tackle the task at hand together, the minds work in sync to assure that each guest has a MEMORABLE EVENING.
